Shine Like The Sun > 21st century messengers
Leo Roustan : vocals, guitar, ukulele
Pharoah Smeaton-Russell : drums, percussions, glockenspiel
For centuries troubadours have travelled around the world trying to communicate the essential; magnifying the sacred character of life through the ritual of creativity. Throughout the ages, the transmission of ancestral values and memories has taken on different forms and adapted
to the ongoing evolution of humanity.
In this vein, the band Shine Like The Sun, create a new pop-folk music enveloped in an altogether new aesthetic combining the essential values of troubadours. To this end, Leo’s lyrics deal with contemporary questions surrounding the preservation of humanity’s natural environment and its cultural heritage; but they also deal with the inherently human themes of love, tenderness and passion.
The Shine Like The Sun sound is acoustic, melodic and musical; a work imagined by melding traditional instruments (encapsulating string, wind and percussive elements) along with Leo’s voice and adding meta-instruments essentially made of raw and natural sounds (wood, skin, metals)
Shine Like The Sun stand at the meeting point between poetry and music – Leo’s lyrics become the songs composed by Leo and his father with Pharoah Smeaton-Russell providing the contemporary polyrhythmic and polyphonic percussion.
Based in London, the band is now self-producing their first EP enjoying an exceptional artistic and creative freedom.
Inspired by their many travels, the trio has so far made connections in London, Berlin, Paris, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Prague.
