The objective of this brief was to reinvigorate the 1884 novel ‘Flatland’ by Edwin A. Abbot.
This was a project for ISTD 2011 and careful attention to typography and gridwork had to be considered.
Flatland was critically acclaimed for its satirical commentry on race, class and gender dynamics.
The challenge was to deconstruct and carefully reassemble the semantic noise and create a typographic solution that embodies a more engaging narrative. This allowed for a lot of experimental use of typography and, even more so, the use of grids.
