- SECONDLIFE MUSEUM OF CREATIVE REUSE
reuse is the best way to save earth's resources
- The Second-life Museum of Creative Reuse is introducing a new system for saving the earth’s resources.
People take their disposed objects to the bins or dumpsters in their community. We dispatch vans to those spots, pick up the objects and send them to the warehouse. Visitors come to our museum gallery to get
inspired, pick up materials from the warehouse and make their own products in our workshop. This is way
of recycling things by human.
- WHY A SECONDLIFE MUSEUM?
The graph shows that in 2011, the average amount of waste generated by each person in America per day was 4.5 pounds. 60% of it could be recycled, but only 13% was actually recycled. 4 pounds, including yard waste, was sent to composting.
- ORANGE TRUCKS AND BINS
We’ve already had trash bins around the city— blue ones as recycling bins, green ones as compost bins and black one as trash bins. However, orange would be added on those bins and dumpsters. We create a new
recycle system by having trucks and bins from our museum around the city. People can donate their discard things to us. And we are going to use those things to produce secondlife objects in our workshop.
- OUR WORKSHOP PRODUCES TRASH TO TREASURES
After seeing all the wonderful ideas in the museum gallery, you would probably like to get some work done by yourself. In our workshop. We have all kind of materials from what people donated to us.
- OUR IDENTITY SYSTEM
Why have we chosen orange as the signature color of our museum? Because orange combines
the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy and sunshine, it is the color of creativity. On the other hand, orange has very high visibility, Moreover, the rising sun is the inspiration for our logo design.Just like the sun rises everyday to nurture life, we bring a second life to those discarded objects.
- THE ORANGE SPACE
Our museum uses rental storage as the display and workshop space. The west and north elevation views show how the museum looks. Each storage room displays one or two objects that are made from the same materials. Solar panels are installed on the top of each building and face the south to collect and save energy cost.
- REUSE MATERIAL MEDIA
We print our invitations and posters on used newpaper through the technique of silkscreen, so new material is needed in the process.
- REUSE IS THE BEST WAY TO SAVE EARTH’S RESOURCES
Recycling differs from reuse in that it breaks down the item into raw materials which are then used to make new items, as opposed to reusing the intact item. As this extra processing requires energy, as a rule of thumb reuse is environmentally preferable to recycling (“reduce, reuse, recycle”), though recycling does have a significant part to play as it can often make use of items which are broken, worn out or otherwise unsuitable for reuse.
