Runner’s World App: Boston Marathon

We’re proud to have designed the first interactive digital edition of Runner’s World. It is particularly significant to us because the subject is The Boston Marathon Bombings from the perspective of 23 runners who participated. The main component of the app is a timeline that starts at 4 am on the day of the race (April 15th) and continues to describe the following 36 hours. Because of the 20,000+ words involved, we had to break the timeline into five sections. The addition of videos, audio clips, photos and an animated map of ‘Boston Strong’ support runs, brings the day to life in a heartbreaking way. David Willey, the Editor in Chief of Runner’s World and our editor, Steve Malley, worked tirelessly to create a mood of elation, horror and ultimately defiance.
