The Rubbermaid FastTrack is a garage storage system that provides an infinite number of easy to reconfigure organization solutions. Rubbermaid was looking into expanding their successful FastTrack line with additional compatible accessories outside of their standard range of wall hook and shelving attachments. Seeing an opportunity from the common garage filled with power tools and other electronics a power strip fit the bill.

 

 

 

 

 

The modular FastTrack rail and accessory system is easily re-configured without the need of tools. The system accommodates 10x more storage compared to other wall solutions by utilizing the space between studs.

 

 

While many options were explored the chosen direction not only provided outlets but also a home for cleanly storing the accompanying extension cords when not in use. Storing the cord related well with the core of the FastTrack System as ultimately being a storage solution. Power where you need it, when you need it.

 

 

 

 

 

Physical models were used for validating the concept and additional idea sketches were produced to explore how the powerstrip attaches to the FastTrack rail.

 

 

 

 

 

The final design includes tidy storage for up to 50ft of extension cable, quick access to outlets, and built-in power save technology. The power strip snaps onto the FastTrack rail without the need of tools and can be quickly moved to adapt to your changing needs.
