- Rose Kennedy Greenway Wharf District Park
Copley Wolff Design Group (CWDG) was the local landscape architectural consultant working in collaboration with a team headed by EDAW, Inc.s Alexandria, VA offi ce to design the Rose Kennedy Greenway Wharf District Park on the former site of the Central Artery Tunnel. This $16m, 4-acre area of land extends from the Boston Harbor Hotel to Rowes Wharf in downtown Boston.
CWDG aided AECOM (EDAW) in developing design concepts for the design completion phase, and lent technical expertise of the site, developed through CWDG's work on the Central Artery/Tunnel Surface Restoration Streetscape project. EDAW and CWDG's inital Wharf District Parks design was based upon a "Green City/City Green" concept. The parks' design is meant to serve as a common ground for both Boston residents and visitors while incorporating environmentally sensitive principles. The parks are multi-purpose, seasonally changing spaces that help re-unify the city to its waterfront. The design takes into account eye-level views as well as views from the surrounding buildings. Components of the design include a promenade, lit "lantern" kiosks, water features, lawns, meadows, and the accommodation of cultural facilities. Extensive community input was incorporated throughout the design process, including 133 public meetings.
