This house was built on land on a river bank (approx. 50 m. from the actual river) and only 2 m. above the normal river height. Naturally, the land is subject to occasional flooding and the house had to be designed to allow for this. The lower storey is built entirely of concrete (slab and block walls) and aluminum framed glass windows and doors. It can be submerged without any adverse effects and by keeping the built-in areas down to a minimum, the floor water can flow through. The upper floor is entirely self contained with living area, a large veranda and main bedroom orientated towards the river views.
