Chain Box

Tasked to design a box to hold an object of importance to me I created this resting place for my most recent loss. As important as the bicycle chain is to the function of its machine it's readily discarded upon breaking. Despite being composed of many links still capable of functioning the loss on one, at least in a single-speed’s chain, renders it useless. The wooden chain, once pinned completely, locks the box shut through a groove corresponding to the raised lip on the edges of the box's two pieces. Made of white oak the majority of the exterior is left untreated to react to chemicals of the hand, specifically ammonia, mimicking the way grease rubs off on a mechanic while working on a bike chain.
