  • Research; Representation of the Digital Archaeology
    The Old City of Jerusalem
  • The old city of Jerusalem has long since been a battleground of archaeology, where excavation is driven by a search for ancestral roots and the evidence of belonging. With much of the archaeology still remaining undiscovered as a result of the socio-political influences of the varying denominations that occupy the city, technological interventions have been sought as a solution to harvesting the hidden archaeology without breaking soil. Based around a study of the speculated cisterns, pathways and chambers that lie beneath the Dome of the Rock, this project explores the reality of this technological archaeology and the impact that it has upon the reading of the spatial and material cultures of the architecture of the past. Seeking to further the exploration of the use of technology beyond virtual representation, into a study of the physical manifestation that explores the perception of the archaeology and the narrative spaces constructed between.
