Republic club night - promotional work

Republic club night
Branding, print and web design for a new London club night

Republic is a new club night, set up in London, United Kingdom, playing a range of music from some of the best DJs the alternative scene has to offer. I was asked to produce an identity and feel for the promotional media, and give an overall theme to the night. I then took this theme to produce flyers, a website, facebook page, twitter stream and decorations around the club on the night.

Flyer designs

Flyers for the night were designed around the fist logo - giving the idea that the Republic was the newly overthrown state, similar to events occuring in Egypt and the Middle East. The designs were then edited in Photoshop to give the impression of stencils sprayed on a wall, and bullet holes added to give the concept of conflict. Details were added, and, as with all flyer designs, maximum legibility ensured to make sure that the flyers could be read in the low light of a club, where they would be given out to people. Also, a clear map was provided on the back, to ensure the location of the club was clear, especially as the venue was new to the alternative scene in London.

Website
As a central focus point for online information, I created a one-page, multi-section website, giving full information on the night, and based it under the URL www.youaretherepublic.com to give the feel that the visitor is part of the revolution the promotional media describes. The site gives details of the night, the DJs and the music playing, travel details, and links to contact email addresses, facebook and twitter pages for the club.

The site was built using HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript, designed around a grid layout and utilising @font-face custom fonts from fonts.com to replicate the Helvetica Neue font used in the flyers.

Social media

Social media presences in the form of a Facebook page and Twitter account were set up to provide a method of connecting with followers, giving news about the club, and interacting by way of asking for their opinion on music played, suggestions for future nights and so on. Each presence was suitably branded, to retain the unity of the club's identity, linked back to the main website, and also linked to associated and local communities and companies, to ensure maximum distribution of the message and brand.

Posters

A week before the club's first night, two posters were designed and distributed on various social networks. Based on the iconic designs featuring Che Guevara and Lord Kitchener, these posters replaced their faces with those of the two promoters of the club, as a humourous take on the military feel of the branding. Designed using Photoshop and InDesign, the posters ensured that the message was kept prominent to all of its online followers.

Banners

For the opening night of the club, to continue the branding throughout, handmade banners were created from stencils, created by blowing up the fist logo and logotype to large scale, and then spray painting them onto material using red and black paints. Six versions of the fist logo were sprayed on to 3x2 foot flags, two versions of the logotype were sprayed onto army-style DPM sheets, and one version of the logotype were sprayed on a long thin banner for the front of the venue.  These then could be hung up around the club, reinforcing the "rag-tag revolutionary" feel of the club night's identity.
