Reinterpretaion and Visualization of Masterpiece

When appreciating a masterpiece, each artists’ unique style and expression methods are seen as a fine example of the period. This study came from an assumption that reinterpreting each artists’ expression mode of their masterpieces might be possible in a way that each works’ feature is extracted. Here is how the study method. At first, select the highly recognized paintings based on the trend of the times, and simplify them into pixel patterns adjusting 10pt unit pixel module. After making the selected paintings into Isometric pixels on undulating space based on each pixel’s difference of lightness, portray the difference of lightness as pitch sound. In sequence, apply the applicable pixel’s color characteristic CMYK value to an octave, and make each pixel’s characteristic pitch value by representing the pitch with chords. As a unique sound is played per pixel from left to right and top to bottom started at the upper left corner in first row and line of the paintings’ pixels, paintings’ own color and brightness are embodied per pixel sound unit. In short, it is an experimental study in an attempt to play a masterpiece out of its own unique sound as the background music while appreciating it.

Through the study, visualization of Masterpiece using Isometric method came to be more useful than existing method of interpreting a masterpiece two-dimensionally in a way that it intuitively analyzes different value of color. In addition, it could be applied in many contents related to masterpieces as it includes the application of reconstructed images of them into various visual and auditory works. In an art gallery, for example, an auralized masterpiece can be played as a backing music when hearing its footnote and explanation through an audio guide, and it can be used as sound effects into masterpiece-related applications of smartphones and smartpads. Moreover, as the images presented from the right, when they get more stereographical, the possibility of application to contents becomes countless such as lego block, plastic art, media art, interior design, new media and etc. Although it is an experimental study, I hope that it will give an idea to those who might further study it with this method in the future.
