Reece Bathroom Innovation Competition
The scope of the competition was to submit an original design for one of the following products: Bathroom furniture (eg vanity unit), Toilet, Basin, Mixer, 3 piece Tapware, Shower, Bath or Accessory Range.
The tap forms a soft, slightly tilted arc from the ceiling,driving the water down, without obstructing the view ofperson using it from the mirror located on the wall. Itwraps around the view angle of the user discretely andcreating a feature at the same time.The opening at the end is asymmetrical, breaking itscontinuous form and showing the water running downbefore falling into the basin. The water will not comeout straight from a small opening but the eye will beable to see (partially) its origin, like it happens innature.The tap hangs from the ceiling from where it connectsto the water pipes.
The shape of the basin has beendesigned to received water from theside at a high speed and with acirculatory movement it directs thewater to its bottom where the waste islocated.The basin can be wall mounted orbench mounted, the shape will changeslightly between the two options.The waste will be a hole drilled on theback lower side of the basin with noelements visible in the internal side ofthe bowl. The connections will happenon the outside of the bowl.The basin will be made of an acrylicbased solid surface, Corian. It will beideal for its non-porous quality andversatility to be shaped. There will be afew standard colours, light and earthy,but because Corian has a very widerange of colours, it will be possible tocustomise it in different ones.
The water is turned on from the mixer, on the opposite side of the sink, lifting the end of the mixer up. To turn off thewater it is necessary to push the top part of the sink down, in its original position.Standing in front of the tap, when the tap is switched off, it will be possible to see an imaginary line connecting the tapand the mixer. An organic shape that defines the washing areas.The mixer has a built in touch screen which allows to regulate the temperature and it gives informations about thewater usage.It will count how many litres of water have been used, each day, week, month and year, allowing every person to beself concious about the amount of water used. It will also record how many litres of hot water have been usedcalculating the amount of energy used to heat the water.On the touch screen it will be possible to flip back and forth to the virtual 'pages' with the different data and lock in thedesired one during the use.The tap and the mixer will be made of stainless steel and brushed stainless steel.
