A Study of Balance
A set of infographics on the theme of balance, inspired by Plato's idea that the soul consists of three parts: reason, spirit, and appetite. Each poster explores a dilemma created by the deficiency or excess of one of these elements. Reason charts the relationships of people involved in the medical ethics case of Henrietta Lacks, whose cells were used for medical research. Spirit is a map and timeline of David Sharp's attempt to climb Mt. Everest, and the other climbers who passed him while he lay dying. Appetite is a timeline of the rising and falling populations of the Shaker villages, which declined due to the practice of celibacy. Spirit/David Sharp won Best of Show in the 2011 AIGA Blue Ridge Flux Student Design Competition. Art Direction: Kelly Holohan
