The point I was making in this piece of minimal design was "don't be afraid to stand out and express yourself", which a lot of young people are struggling with.
Held in March and April each year, the Australian National Youth Week competition is a government funded event that attracts thousands of young people across the country to express themselves through art, design, films, photography and writing.
When I was 16, my design got shortlisted and went on to win the People's Choice Award. To my surprise, it had also been featured on the cover of 'Effective Communication with Young People' by the Australian Government for Youth.
I did a lot of design/illustration works in high school. Although this drawing doesn't seem like much, I chose to include this work in my professional portfolio because it's this drawing that gave me the confidence to pursue a creative career and influenced me to become who I am today.
