  • I have always loved the cheesy excess that was a major part of the 1980s typography.
Over the last few months I have pushed myself to recreate a lot of these hand drawn effects using photoshop, aiming for a mixture of authenticity and improvement on the original ideas.
Some of these were used, some never made the cut and some were just for fun.
  • MTV illustration, using the logo as the main focus of the piece.
  • Chrome and Neon LP inspired.
  • Break the Ice. Miami Vice, 1980s beach vibe. Lyrics from a John Farnham song featured in the movie, Rad.
  • 'The Sticker pack' A collection of smaller type pieces displayed as distressed peel off stickers.
  • 'Chrome' text taken from an earlier tutorial I put together on recreating an 80s style chrome effect.
  • 'The terminator' style. Heavy metal, masculine, edgy.
  • Disco Volante late 70s inspired LP cover.
  • The iconic 'Brush style' hand drawn text. Seen here in hot pink.
  • Polyester Afros text was part of a bigger design for an LP cover.
