Puffin Design Awards: The Outsiders - Book Cover Design
As part of the Puffin Design Award I created a cover design for the book "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. My aim for this project was to create a design that was appealing to its teenage target market, while also grabbing the attention of adults. I felt the 1950s illustrative car gave the book a nostalgic feel, in order to capture the older adult audience who would of read the book when they were teenagers, but also to capture the teenage audience of today through its use of vibrant colours and illustrative style. I designed the typography to compliment the illustration, taking inspiration from 1950s typography, such as advertisments and comic strips.
