Puerto Rico Abandonment

  • An abandoned military hangar in Puerto Rico. Photographed in the summer of 2012. All shots taken on Canon D60 Digital Camera with SIGMA 17-50 MM lens.
  • When visiting a friend in Puerto Rico to attend her wedding, I got an opportunity to visit this abandoned military hangar. The fiancee of my friend is also a passionate photographer, and he wanted me to see this location because he knew that I also appreciated abandoned landscapes.
  • The outside of the facility. Apparently the facility was abandoned less than a dozen years ago, and yet it looks like it has been standing this way for far longer. It is astounding and disturbing how quickly our architecture can erode.
  • A surprising amount of trash can be found inside the facility. Also, a small staircase leading to nowhere.
  • The toilet was dislodged from its original location.
  • The original location of the toilet, now eroded and unrecognizable.
  • An armchair sits completely torn apart and alone in the center of the hangar.
  • One cannot help but wonder why on earth a baby boy's shoe is sitting here, as though waiting to be put on.
