John Coulthart's profile

Psychedelic Wonderland

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was published in 1865. One hundred years later the first rumblings of psychedelic art and music were beginning to manifest themselves and Lewis Carroll's books were referenced in numerous ways during the late 1960s, from White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane and Carroll's appearance on the sleeve of Sgt. Pepper, to obscure bands such as Frumious Bandersnatch (USA), Wonderland (UK), and songs like Jabberwocky by Boeing Duveen and the Beautiful Soup. For my 2010 calendar design I decided to bring those two worlds together again, Carroll's Victorian surrealism and the florid excess of the psychedelic era.

I had great fun making this. If you'd like a copy it's on sale here: http://www.cafepress.com/psychwonderland.754362394

Update: By popular demand this calendar is now on sale again at the link above.
