Promo: HBO's Eastbound & Down (new)

It's Kenny Powers as you've never seen him... literally set ablaze in 2C's latest promo collaboration with HBO for the show's all-new season (September 29 premiere). The 35-second spot marks the character's return after faking his own death, and does it in a way that only Kenny Powers would envision...

With dramatic narration providing a fitting intro, the scene opens on a glorious Phoenix rising mystically from the ashes before bursting into flames to reveal a rather dapper-looking Kenny Powers. He's majestic, he's well-dressed, and "CAW! CAW!" (just kidding)

2C worked closely with HBO on an initial script before using CG to create a rough cut that would allow the show's star Danny McBride (Kenny) and creator Jody Hill to envision what Kenny might look like emerging from the flames. When both loved the idea, 2C flew to the "Eastbound & Down" set in Wilmington, where—alongside HBO's creative team—they shot McBride on green screen. The footage was then keyed into a completely CG environment, with all fire done using fluid simulation and other effects added to make it come alive.
