Juventude - Projectos

Challenged by Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes [SNBA], in Lisbon, it's asked to review projects of older students and restructure them under the perspective of the students of nowadays.
Projected by Diogo Marinho, the original project had as main goal rethink the door.
As a multifunctional object, "Porta Bancos" uses the main door of the small apartments to hide four stools inside of it. Although, even if the main objective tries to solve a problem, the resulting object fails on the basic principles of all doors, that are projected to give security and privacy for the user. On the other hand, trying to group this two objects brings us problems on the manufacturing process, because both structures must be redesigned, changing all the processes to built them on separated.
After this analysis I realised that the stool is used for short periods of time and used in many different ways. It can be turned into a base of support for other objects, to serve as bedside table or as a small bookshelf. If we put two seats next to each other with a board over several people can sit on a bench alone.
As consequence I projected a stool to be seen for what it is. I decided to strip the stool away from prejudices and developed a product that meets the basic needs that do exist and have a place in the world of objects. It is then that, starting from a metal sheet, apply minimal manufacturing processes needed for its construction - cutting, bending, welding and finishing point - to design a stool that is aesthetic and formal simple answers to the multiple uses that a user give to it.
