This week is a collaborative project with designer Rami Moghadam, who hails from Germany but is currently based in Tel Aviv. He is also one of Print Magazine's New Visual Artists and a good friend of mine. Inspired by the cities that both of us live in, we decided to create a font that embodies some of the city characteristics that are most symbolic to us. Rami focused on Tel Aviv's Bauhaus Architecture Style with its clean lines and smooth curves, whereas I focused on my morning commute, typically met with a funneling of traffic slowly moving through the Lincoln Tunnel. Rami created the structure of the font and I traced over it by hand to create a pattern of abstract vehicles that are waiting in a never-ending line. We named our font New Aviv.
