As part of a group project we were asked to work on designing an Indoor set for a music video. The song is called “Chalta Chal” and talks about the never say die spirit of persevering no matter what life puts you through. The concept for the story was a video tracking a boy who goes through the city and sees beauty in small everyday things. These clips would be juxtaposed with visuals of the band performing the video on stage. The main keywords given to us were larger than life and we were asked to come up with something that was more rock and roll.
The final concept that was selected had two main elements and 3 days to set up. We were working on putting together a 13’ by 26’ wall of light bulbs. In front of which we would build a giant pair of wings spanning 9’ x 22’. Since most of the outdoor locations selected were well lit and picturesque lake side, city street places filmed during the brightest time of the day we felt by creating a darker set with extravagant lights and props creates a disparity they wanted between the set and reality. Going extravagant with the set and props also was a way to directly juxtapose the “beauty in everyday things” with a more over the top bling take on positivity.
We had 2 days to conceptualize and finalize the design for the set and 3 days to build it and have it ready.
