President's Design Award 2012
The President’s Design Award is Singapore’s highest honour accorded to designers and designs from all design disciplines. It recognises the significant contributions and achievements of an extraordinary group of people who are making a difference to the lives of Singaporeans and to the lives of larger global communities.
The recipients become the standard bearers of the measure of design excellence to which future generations of designers should constantly aspire and exceed. These standards eventually permeate into the consciousness of society, bringing about a greater awareness and appreciation of quality design.
Theme: Rise To The Occasion
The ascending gradient of a topographer’s contour map is a fitting visual symbol for the theme —Rise to the occasion—of the President’s Design Award 2012. A vocation is like a hillock to hike, a peak to climb or a mountain to scale. It is an expedition requiring hard work, drive and passion to achieve the desired result.
This year’s 13 recipients have trekked and arrived at one of the summits of their design career. They have secured the highest accolade for design in this land. They have risen to the occasion.
