  • Presidential Costs
     Information Print Design - 36x36" - Spring 2010
  • This one started out as being a focus on whether or not Presidential parties directly affected economics within the U.S (in terms of GDP and National Debt) - when no correlation was realized (beyond massive growth due to Post-War consumerism and general globalization) - this is what resulted. This is a print piece, there was initially a long timeline, but then the print would have been over 5ft long even if the labels were at 10 pt. I decided to synthesize this down to a circle for in order to compact the information into a smaller space, while still maintaining readability.

    Sources:
    1. Presidents, Parties, Lists of U.S Wars as well as Legislation were all found via Wikipedia Lists. These lists were curated (not all bills, or all wars are shown) in order to make the visualization more coherent.
    2. Debt figures were taken directly from publicly available data at http://www.bea.gov/national/index.htm#gdp

This data visualization was featured on Flowing Data.com - http://flowingdata.com/2010/06/13/history-of-the-united-states-in-a-circle/
