What it is:
Prefab Space is a design concept for short-term plug-in/freestanding work, retail, or installation spaces
Why:
Pop-up stores, fairs, galleries, events, etc... the occupation of spaces for a short period of time becomes increasingly more common. Similarly, as commercial outfits become increasingly more transient, faster installation and demolition times become essential in maximizing productivity
Design Approach & Process:
Treats available area as a volumetric spatial template from which blocks are carved out allowing the remaining vacancies to be assigned to walls, floor, ceiling, furniture, and other functional requirements that are predefined by the user. Recycleable plywood or other eco-friendly sheet materials are CNC milled into unique and customizable sections and pieced together using mechanical fasteners. The use of flat sheet goods allows for easy transport and handling of materials
