Pratt Planning Portfolio
The SMIA^2 Sunset Park Plan was created as a part of a community planning process where the UPROSE and Sunset Park Community discussed a variety of concerns, threats, problems, needs and desires that were brain stormed upon with a Pratt Institute Studio to come up with ideas to address issues surrounding the coastal community changing climate and economy.
The Sunset Park Community, as a part of a Disaster Planning class, was conceptually analyzed using a S.W.A.T. (Strengths, Weaknesses, Assets, and Threats) Analysis. Part of that analysis involved a GIS vulnerability assessment that mapped demographic vulnerabilities by census tract.
As a part of a Climate Change and Cities class, a discussion was had around the issues of community engagement on long term planning issues like Climate Change and the necessary adaptation and mitigation planning that needs to be undertaken to reduce the harm for both our communities and our planet. This was a conceptualized process to potentially use to create a community engagement procedure for creating climate change resilient communities.
