Postmodernism for the Present Day
- POSTMODERNISM:for contemporary fashion markets.
- Our first practical brief for Textile Design at Leeds University for Level 2 was to research into a particular period in design history and bring it into the 21st century using contemporary designer influen. From this background research we were asked to produce 2 collections of laser cut designs aimed at todays fashion markets.Postmodernism was my chosen time period for which I was able to gather thorough research at the Victoria and Albert Museum's exhibition. I came away with the realisation that there wasn't any particular characteristics or motifs of Postmodernism as the idea was to combine all together; an and/both approach as opposed to either/or.
- Sigmar Polke, Jean Tingueley, Jean Claude and Christo, Anthony Caro were all artists of the time period whose work I really enjoyed. By making drawings from their work in my own style, I had a starting point for later research.

- I've always loved monoprinting so when I was given the opportunity to use the print workshop at uni I was able to really develop my skills and take my visual research further.

- The following images are Illustrator files that were used to send to the laser cutter for final outcomes to be produced. A very intensive process; using Illustrator to create a successful pattern but very rewarding when it works!

- Cut from wooden offcuts, these are just two out of the eight final designs cut for wearable art necklace designs. Two very different designs but work with the Postmodernism theme well.
