Art in Public poster

Promotional poster for visiting scholar Lambert Zuidervaart. His newly released book Art in Public: Politics, Economics, and a Democratic Culture addresses issues of how we think about art and its public function in relation to the economy and the state.

I used a blurred image of the popular public sculpture
La Grande Vitesse by Alexander Calder to make connections with the ideas expressed in the book.

The poster and slideshow were featured in the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, as well as in the Grand Rapids Art Museum during the lecture and symposium events.
Exposed poster

This poster is photo documentation of an installation of facebook profiles displayed in the woods. The project applies the word "exposed" to the current issue of privacy and exposure on social media websites. I reference the phrase "airing your dirty laundry in public" to illustrate that anyone can view your private information at any time and anywhere.
ArtPrize Poster

I created a paint-by-number image with the message, "Kit Tested, Voter Approved" and situated it in an environment that resembled ArtPrize.

The poster has a few different interpretations, but it mainly comments on the type of art people see and vote for at ArtPrize. Even though some of the art is not the most artistically challenging art (from a paint-by-number kit) the audience still likes it and votes for it. ArtPrize tends to be more about the experience than the actual art.

The phrase used is a play on words of an old Kix cereal slogan, "Kid tested, Mother approved."
