Following the March 11th earthquake and tsunami that devasted Sendai and the Touhoku region of Japan, images immediately exploded on to our TVs and monitors around the world. Images showing us boats atop buildings miles inland and complete destruction for as far as the eye could see.
While seeing these images I developed a strong urge to go and capture not the desctruction, but rather portraits of the people immediately affected.
A few weeks later I arrived in Sendai and shot this series of pictures.
What I found were not people who were angered, hopeless, or devastated, but people filled with strength and perserverance.
