Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, from a Dutch mother and Polish father, he was 10 when the family returned to the Netherlands.
He started taking pictures with an analogue camera his brother had given him when he was 16. His brother wouldn't be using it anyway. Since that time photography has increasingly engrossed him. Especially when the digital era arrived with all it's boundless possibilities, his photography improved in bounds.
Jos Kuklewski is autodidactic and has learned by simply looking at the work of others. Styles or ideas he finds appealing, he assimilates and moulds to his own taste. Through the years an own 'style' has developed.
Important elements in his work are:
- a clear, balanced composition
-"less" is often "more"
-images with some "wow"-factor
-unusual or surprising points of view
-tendency towards detail
He doesn't constrain himself to one single theme to specialise in. His aim is to excel not only in, for example, portraits. Also architecture, theatre, nature, city- or streetlife are subjects asking for interesting images. Why let the chance go by?
Below is a first sampling of recent work.
