Pop-Up book
Reis met stip door de Pop-Up wereld (A journey with "Dot" through the Pop-Up world).
After seeing a TV commercial that used a pop-up book in it I got so excited that I decided to go find more information about Pop-Up books and how they are being crafted and use this information to eventually make and write my own book. The information I found soon became a personal journey through all of the aspects of the Pop-Up world and I decided to turn this into the textual part of the book, explaining how different techniques work and what the history of pop-up books is.

At the same time I also wanted there to be a separate visual story, which often occurs in children's books. I thought it would be a challenge to make some Pop-Up's myself, so the choice to let the visual story consist out of Pop-Up's was kind of obvious.

To guide the readers through both storylines I created a simple character named Stip (In English: Dot). 6 chapters had to become 6 different worlds/locations and I started thinking about creating a fictional route with elements in it that I could turn into paper Pop-Up's:

1. ''Dot'' needs to go through the doors of a strange house.
2. He visits a museum with abstract art, where he all of a sudden sees a silhouette of his self hanging on the wall.
3. He needs to cross the red river with a peculiar boat where he goes overboard and has to grab a life buoy.
4. On the other side of the river there's a park with a colourful tree in which he climbs but almost falls out.
5. Just when he is about to fall a ladybug catches him.
6. He shoots of the ladybugs back, into the air and gets all dizzy.

The Informational part in the book consists out of the following chapters:

Foreword, 1. Short history, 2.The creators of Pop-Up's, 3. Target groups, 4. Several Pop-Up techniques, 5. From start to end product, 6. How this book was made, Conclusion Appendices, Sources

To have an overview of his journey and the informational part I created a map that shows where he will be going. This map became the Index of the book.

Throughout the book I've kept the typography very simple so that it wouldn’t let the reader's attention get away from the actual Pop-Up's. The title on the cover of the book is placed in black and as a mirrored image in red. I mirrored it because the Pop-Up world is a different world than the normal world and it adds funny element to it. The illustration I've drawn for the cover shows ''Dot'' walking over a globe that has all the Pop-Up elements on it you can also find in this book.
