Pocket Dealer was a concept created as part of a Self Authorship brief, where we get to choose the subject we'd like to explore. I went through a number of different themes, learning new things. But one I struggled with was drugs. Finding first hand, primary research was difficult, since I'm not connected very well in this sub-culture of drug related activity.
So whilst struggling to think of something to say about this part of my interesting exploration, due to the lack of contact I could find with people who sell drugs, I created a concept where I could pick up my phone, download an app and find a drug dealer instantly. I like to think of it as an Ebay/Gumtree drug trading app.
So what you do is:
1.Create a profile
2. Search for drug dealers near you
3. Check prices and potentially buy drugs. When finished - leave a rating/comment (Positive or Negative)
Design style was something I wanted to still feel a little bit secretive. This was achieved through minimal colour, so that it's not splashing out of the screen, keeping it discrete and using a typeface which is very rigid and doesn't feel too fussy, just keeping things simple. (Just like drug dealing, quick, no fuss & discrete).
If you're wondering why I've used a hanging pair of trainers, it's because through research and investigation in my local area, people were hanging shoes on telephone wires to mark their territory as a drug dealer. It lasted a while, people complained about the rise in activity and they were taken down by local police.
It wouldn't be something promoted outragously. I'd want people to find it for themselves and then have it promoted through word of mouth. Since finding a drug dealer for some people isn't so easy, it might come at a price. But for now, let's just say it's free.
So there you have it, the concept for Pocket Dealer. Whip out your phone and find a dealer without any hassle. Crazy idea I know, obviously it would never happen for many reasons. But I amused myself for a while thinking WHAT IF. So there, hope you enjoy it. Just a bit of fun!
