PLAY BY THE RULES
Play by the Rules is a BFA exhibit design project discusses the topic of inter-cultural communication. My interest in the way other cultures communicated with each other and with people from all over the world, sparked a project where I highlighted the basic ways people communicate and how that differs in different cultures.
I feel that it is important to learn why and how other cultures communicate the way they do because aside from a language barrier, there are many misunderstandings and miscommunications that lead to bigger problems socially, simply because we do not understand that a person is communicating differently and not necessarily being rude.
I wanted people to understand that whether in verbal communication (aside from the language) or non-verbal communication, different cultures have a different way of expressing themselves.
I also decided to create a card game where people can learn about the gestures used in different countries. It is a fun and interactive game that at the same time lets you learn new things about a culture.
