Pilatus: Paint Scheme

In 2010 I was asked if Iwould be interested in creating a paint scheme for an airplane. A project likethis was on my “designer’s dream list.” I got towork and within a week I had seven concepts ready. There was only one that Icould not stop refining. It was the very first one. Its rare, but sometimes thefirst idea is the best. The paint scheme worked well with the shape of theairplane. The lines were fluid and a bit edgy.

Lets fast-forward a monthor two. The design was selected and as a team we started color selection forthe 2011 demonstrator. The demonstrator aircraft is the one that gets all thegoodies installed and is shown off at the aviation trade shows. The aircraftwent to paint, came back and it looked like 4.5 million bucks. I realize I’mwriting my own review here, but I can’t contain my excitement.

Word has recently gotten back to me that the paint scheme is being very well received by dealerships and owners alike. It has been spec’ed on 7 planes already. There are some color mods that look almost as good as the original demonstrator.
