  • Digitial Photography Retouch Assignment

A major use of digital photographic imaging, beyond the basic improvements of tone and color of a photographic image, is either the removal of information from the photo or the addition of information to the photo. For this assignment, I took images with a camera with the plan of changing the meaning of each photograph in a significant way in Photoshop. This was done by either removing an element that was in the original photograph, or adding an element to the photograph, using the retouching tools in Photoshop.

I’m interested in people and the human form. I think people are the most interesting subject for any art form because the human body in its entirety is beautiful. I’m interested in distortion and manipulation; I’ve always been interested in fantasy/monsters/creatures… that type of thing, and I like to incorporate those ideas or that type of a theme into my artwork. I like to distort the human face in my drawings to make them look inhuman; I’d like to possibly experiment with something like this with photography.
  • Removal - Limbs.
I want to re-do this to make it look more realistic where her limbs end. I just need to get around to doing it. When I do I'll update.

  • Addition - Pregnant belly.
  • Removal: Fingers
  • Removal - Eyes and Mouth
  • Addition - Scary Mouth and Eyes
  • Digital Photography Class Final Project
  • I wanted to elaborate on what I had already been working on with focusing on the human body. I felt like the body presented a broad array of possibilities within the realm of adding and subtracting elements from a photograph.

such limits. You should always be thinking of creative ways to do what you are interested in doing photographically within the limits set by the current assignment.
