Photogenesis: Rechargeable Backpack

Industrial Design
This is the Photogenesis Rechargeable Backpack. I designed it with Matt Manganti and Danny Calabrese. The goal of the project was to create a tool for photographers and photojournalists that would allow them to go into the most remote locations and still be able to perform at a professional level, for days at a time. We ended up with this backpack, which has a built-in Moshi battery made by Ardica, which is a thin, flexible, rechargeable battery that can charge anything via USB. The backpack has storage for water, clothes, food, and other necessities, as well as lenses, extra batteries, camera bodies, or whatever else a photographer may need. It also has a pocket on the strap equiped with a charging cable in order to charge either a smartphone or a wireless hard drive for storing photos. This project won third place (and $2,000) in the international design competition by Ardica in 2009.
Here is a fun commercial we made for the backpack.
