The purpose of the Closer campaign is to bring a cancer treatment centre closer to home for those in the Peterborough area. Once installed, the radiation bunker - a self-contained treatment unit - will allow local patients to undergo treatment at PRHC. They currently have to travel to Toronto or other points south. The tagline of the campaign is "raise your hand if you've been affected by cancer". The campaign features people who have been affected by cancer including hospital staff and local celebrities such as Bob Gainey, the former executive vice president and general manager of the Montreal Canadiens.
