Persephone Typographic Specimen: Helvetica Neue LT Stddesigned and crafted by Nathaniel PhillipsAssociate Professor: Cindy Koren
According to Greek mythology, Persephone is forced to live half of each year in the underworld after mistakenly eating the forbidden pomegranate seeds. The image of this woman--which gradually appears lower on the page as the book goes on--was printed on vellum and placed over the text. As a result, this specimen also serves as a flipbook. Show in the video below, as the pages are turned, Persephone can be seen rapidly falling.
