This was the first project I was given in the second year of University. I was asked to chose between a various collection of books from different authors and design a set of three book covers. I opted for the Peter Benchley - Thriller Collection: Beast, Creature and The Island.
I wanted to go for quite a modern style of the illustrations that would appeal to a younger audience, but still keep the classic look with the ornate frame and vintage pattern. I aimed to make the designs as cohesive as possible and I wanted them to look collectable.
I wanted the images on the covers to represent things from the books. I didn't want to have the obvious image of a squid or shark from the story lines, so I went with parts of the monster instead and other added extras.
