My entry for the Penguin Design Awards 2012 for the book 'Grimm's Fairy Tales'. My design was based around the concepts of choice and collections. I decided the design a cover around the idea of Grimm's Fairy Tales being a collection of stories with the reader having the choice to choose which ever story they wish to.
With this the idea of an old sweetshop came about as it links to both collection and choice. Old sweet shops had various collections of sweets that the buyer would choose the ones that wanted.
Then the concept of making each sweet relate to a story came about by taking the name or look e.g. Fruity Frogs were placed in the 'Frog Prince' jar. I then gave it a old spooky feel to show a taste of the scary and dark stories in the book.
The concept then steered away from the sweet shop a little and gave the impression of a magical potions of a rack which also links nicely to the stories. Read Less
