Competition Entry for Adult cover
This is my entry for the 2012 Penguin book cover competition. The title is One Flew Over A Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey. I used the full verse from which the title is taken which is a half remembered childhood rhyme of one of the characters. I have chosen to blind emboss the rhyme as part of the wider title page. As this is a remnant of a previous almost forgotten life it is represented here as a mere imprint which is desperate to be remembered as proof of normality. Not sure if that will go down well we will have to wait and see. The type is deliberately set very rigidly in the most conventional face, times roman & italic, but with a little effort at breaking the grid by setting the cover text about a vertical axis which allows the half remembered rhyme to encroach into the consciousness.
