Here is a solution that's up and running at pombai.com. With Pombai.com rendering in three very different languages (English, Chinese and Thai), the more that can be expressed with icons and images, the fewer the opportunities for misunderstanding. After all, "VISA" is "VISA" in any language.
Visual feedback is helpful to users while they are filling out forms. Here, the 'generic credit card' changes to your specific card once you type in the first four numbers of your card.
All of the input fields give visual reference to users, leading them through a very natural signup process.
