pateo do collegio: identity
by renato castilho
The "Pateo do Collegio" is located in Embu das Artes, São Paulo –where this World famous city was first erected. As a pro-bono project I took on the task of re-imagining how the various logos pertaining to this institution could work as a coherent system. From the large area which encompasses the buildings (Pateo do Collegio) to smaller workshops (OCA —which teach underprivileged kids life skills thru art), and two museums (MASJ and Anchieta —which collections are rich in hand-carved wooden statues from the 18th and 19th centuries, among several other sacred artifacts from the period.) Here's the result of this exercise and a small part of the thought process.
The current system at the time. Five hand-drawn logos with a few traits in common.
The color palette for the system was sampled from relevant references and artifacts.
After arriving at a common stylistic approach I focused on systematically applying it across their different entities.
The inspiration for the MASJ logo.
