Passive-Aggressive

  • Inspired by the venomous marine invertebrate Portuguese Man o’War or Physaliaphysalis, the project tries to interpret both the vulnerability and strength of the species within a fashion context. Floating on the surface of the ocean by its bladder, it becomes dependent on winds, currents and tides (passiveness), yet with its tentacles under the water it reveals its dangerous trait (aggression).
     I took this characteristic opposition to create a small range of hand-made accessories (shoulder pads, a collar and bracelets) using jellyfish-like shapes as if they have stuck to the skin. They are made of  transparent /translucent plastics and recycled materials (PVC, polyamide, silicone) which makes different parts of the body to look deformed or exaggerated (emphasising shoulders, neckline and wrists). This provides an imposing silhouette representing the aggressive power, whereas the binding of the accessories itself refers to movement restrictions. Thus, a conflict is engendered.
