Paper Architecture + Cultural Dynamics: South Africa Project / Mud Studies [Conceptual Project] (Excerpt)
Jack Travis FAIA ARCHITECT collaboration - Presented Fall 2011
In the Summer of 2011, Jack Travis FAIA ARCHITECT assembled a group of designers and students to participate in the second phase of his “Paper Architecture + Cultural Dynamics” series. The program was to design a cultural-sustainable residential complex in Cape Town, South Africa for a small family of four. An infirmary and girls’ school were also part of the grounds.

Once the team had completed the project narrative and client bios, I led the interiors group, investigating all design aspects for the interior architecture. I coordinated the design of all interior spaces. I selected all residential finishes, interior and exterior furniture, fittings, equipment, and interior and exterior lighting fixtures. I was responsible for the selection of finishes, furnishings, and lighting fixtures for the commercial project components as well.  I also produced all digital presentation materials for the project’s interiors component.

The culmination of this design effort was the presentation of this project, by Lucas London, Mr. Travis, and myself at the National Organization of Minority Architect’s convention in October 2011 in Atlanta, GA.
