“Pakistan” is a book about a country that is often heard about, but rarely understood. Starting from the rich historical heritage of the indian subcontinent, the story traces the journey from Mughal Empire to colonization and lastly to present-day Pakistan.
I wanted to create this book as an answer to the questions I'd be asked while living in United States regarding life in Pakistan. Thus the syle of illustration I chose strives to communicate to a Western audience by combining the aesthetics of comic books with the Eastern traditon of miniature painting.
The stark black and white palette and use of diagonals is to show how Pakistan is a country of great contrasts and disparity.
