PAPER CUT-OUT SERIES
Ongoing series of paper cut-out art pieces...
I started paper cutting about 6 years (and hundreds of no. 11 exact-o blades) ago with a series of shadow puppet plays I put on with my sister, and presented to groups of family and friends on both coasts.
I found I had a knack for it as well as enjoying the stark contrast of blacks and whites, much akin to printmaking...My last series of paper cut-outs was a rumination on fairy tales and fables and my personal experience of them.
I have found my work moving through the years from more traditional 2-D into more 3-D work (though elements of the 3-D have been there all along, waiting to play a stronger role), and I find this to be something I am beginning to explore with paper sculpture as well...but paper cutting is something that is here to stay, to reappear in the various spurs of the ongoing trajectory of my work...
This is a survey then, of past work, as well as future completed pieces...stay tuned...
