When I travel, my camera gets loaded mostly of regular tourist pictures. Images of me and my family, pictures of buildings and main attractions stored for eternity on my hard drive. I decided to make something meaningful –at least for me– on my next trip, something that really will hold the memories of the place in five, ten, or 20 years from now.
My conclusion was to document typographic works found on my way through the cities, I tried to avoid corporative works and commercial brands, sticking to interesting letterforms, hand-drawn signs, carved letters, neon lights, etc.
Cologne amazed me by its typographic works, mainly gothic styles found on The Cathedral. The Cathedral is not only an incredible piece of art, engineering and architecture, but a nest full of interesting and amazing type treatments. This is not an attempt to portray german typography, but a mere compendium of my findings on this beautiful city.
