Penguin Books Classics Redesigned
I was tasked with recreating the covers for the George Orwell Classics '1984' and 'Animal Farm. I approached the covers with a purely abstract methodology, using just shapes in the way I thought would best represent the themes of each book. I also developed the typography to suit each book. To me '1984' had a Steampunk undertone to it whilst 'Animal Farm' felt very Russian/Constructivist so this way how I approached the typography.
As '1984' deals with the themes of the Big Brother, Manipulation and Control I chose to focus the geometry around these principles. 'Animal Farm' deals with Power, Leadership and Manipulation with strong references to Russian history so I designed all the elements with inspiration from Russian typography and imagery.
