  • This collection of images were created using antique papers, collected from a variety of sources including charity shops, antique markets and internet auctions. They were then sewn beneath translucent thick paper using a sewing machine to create the black line - here, thread replaces pen. Subsequently parts of the paper can be cut away using a scalpel to reveal certain parts of the paper beneath. A lot of the images have built in imagery (for example the swan contains royal images due to the parallels of swans and royals claiming ownership) something I like to work into my images.

All work is photographed on an overhead projector, to create a vintage glow beneath the birds. The way the light courses through the holes pierced by the sewing machine also has the feel of stars, whimsy even.
